Our client needed to migrate their customer data and automation workflows from SendGrid to Customer.io. This case study outlines our approach to the project, particularly in defining data points, ensuring proper data accessibility, and migrating automation workflows.

The primary challenge in this migration was ensuring a seamless transition of customer data while maintaining automated workflows across multiple brands under the client’s platform. Additionally, while the client handled the data migration internally, we needed to verify data accessibility and provide strategic recommendations for future marketing campaigns.

Solution: 

Our ESP Migration approach focused on three key areas:

  1. Data Definition and Strategy
    • We collaborated with the client to create a comprehensive data point report, defining the key recommended attributes needed for future campaigns.
    • We assessed the feasibility of tracking various data points, such as geolocation, ensuring alignment with the client’s capabilities.
  2. Data Verification and Implementation
    • Once the client integrated their customer data into Customer.io, we tested its accessibility within templates using the templating language Liquid code (Liquid is a templating language, it’s used to create templates that can be populated with dynamic data), including through triggers and segmentations.
    • We verified whether the data was tracking correctly at the individual customer level, ensuring reliability for future campaigns.
  3. Automation and Template Migration
    • We reviewed and rebuilt the client’s existing automation workflows in Customer.io.
    • Given that four additional companies were using the platform under the client’s brand, we also developed white-labelled email templates for a consistent brand experience across all entities.

By working closely with the client, we facilitated a smooth transition and laid the foundation for more advanced, data-driven campaigns in the future. Our involvement ensured:

  • A clear and structured approach to data definition, benefiting future marketing initiatives.
